Akbar Simonse, known as Akbar Sim, was a street photographer from The Hague who played a crucial role in documenting and promoting the street art and graffiti scene in the Netherlands. With his camera, he captured countless artworks in his photos, ranging from legal murals to illegal graffiti, preserving the fleeting nature of this art form. His work was highly valued by both artists and art lovers, earning him the title of the ‘godfather of street art photography.’
When Akbar was diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2019, this hit the community hard. As did his passing in 2021, he is still missed to this day.
